Nigeria Extradites Chinese Gang Leader in INTERPOL Raid

Nigeria has extradited Dai Qisheng, a Chinese national described by authorities as a gang leader wanted for violent organised crimes in Guizhou Province, after a coordinated INTERPOL operation spanning Abuja and Beijing. According to the Nigeria Police Force, INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja tracked and arrested Dai in the capital on 8 August 2025. He was repatriated to Beijing on 15 August 2025 under police-to-police cooperation involving INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.

Nigerian police say Dai fled China in 2024 following an arrest warrant issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County. The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, said the operation shows Nigeria “will not be a hiding place for fugitives,” stressing continued investment in intelligence-sharing and cross-border cooperation to disrupt transnational criminal networks.

Images released by authorities show officers and liaison officials at an international terminal during the handover. No details were provided on the route used for the transfer or pending court proceedings in China, but police characterised the case as a “landmark” demonstration of how INTERPOL channels enable fast action against suspects who attempt to exploit borders.

The extradition comes amid a broader regional effort to tighten law-enforcement cooperation on human trafficking, cyber-enabled crime, and organised violence. Nigerian authorities said similar joint actions are planned as agencies step up surveillance of high-risk travel patterns and use of forged identities by fugitives.
